Empowering by Educating
Education is the only way to end inequality and injustice as well as further hope for a better world. Not only is it a fundamental human right, it enhances lives and will end generational cycles of poverty and disease. Society’s deeply rooted inequalities condemn millions of children in Africa-particularly girls-to a life without quality education and missed opportunities. A rights-based approach to education can address these issues. The key to a stable and peaceful Africa is its women, therefore, we must educate the “Girl Child” in order to help Africa. Let’s use our networks to directly help those in need of an education. Support our work in Africa.
The ‘Bright Minds Bright Futures’ Fundraiser will take place on Sunday the 7th of November at 811 Carnarvon St, New Westminster.

Hope In Shadows
October 12, 2010Hope in Shadows is a community project based around a photography contest for residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The prize-winning photos are featured in an annual calendar which residents themselves sell for a profit.

Megaphone Victory Square Block Party Returns!
September 2, 2010Following a one-year hiatus, Megaphone is helping bring the glorious Victory Square Block Party back to Vancouver on Sunday, September 5th. Co-sponsored with their friends at Music Waste, the free cultural event shows what’s possible when the community comes together to have a good time and support a good cause.
With the first Victory Square Block Party held 2004, this year’s event builds on the festival’s tradition of providing free and fresh entertainment to the city, while bringing new bands, comedians and spectators into the fold.
Headlining this year’s lineup is Vancouver garage-rock duo The Pack A.D. and the power-pop outfit The Tranzmitors. The day will also see local favourites Apollo Ghosts and Makeout Videotape, both who are riding a wave of hype and critical praise. A few of the city’s best sketch groups will provide some laughs in between, as well as a stand up set by acclaimed author and comedian Charles Demers.
Proceeds from the event’s raffle draw will go toward Megaphone’s vendor program and will help them kick-start their Fall fundraising drive.
“Megaphone’s mission is about fostering community connections,” says Sean Condon, Megaphone’s executive director, “and the Victory Square Block Party has a history of bringing people together to celebrate culture and create positive change. The money raised from the raffle draw will allow us to continue to give our homeless and low-income vendors the tools and skills they need to be successful.”
If you are unable to attend the event, you can make a donation to Megaphone’s vendor program online.
The completely free Victory Square Block Party will take place on Sunday, September 5th from 2-9 p.m. at Victory Square Park (W. Hastings and Cambie).
